Diving Instruction
He takes swimming lessons, so why does he need diving instruction? I think just about every diving teacher has heard this argument. The parent never seems to understand that even though swimming can be dangerous when performed improperly, diving is even more so. If the parent sees the importance of getting swimming lessons, surely they should be able to see the importance of diving instruction. Proper diving instruction minimizes the risk involved with entering the water at a high velocity. Diving instruction saves lives.
Why has diving instruction been ignored?
No on can pin point exactly why diving instruction hasn’t become as popular as swimming instruction. All we know is that parents tend to see the need for their child to learn how to swim. Diving instruction is just as necessary, but most of the time a parent needs to be taught why it is so important. Rarely does a diving instruction center just teach diving; most of the time, they teach swimming to. It is the job of the school to talk with the parents and educate them as to the dangers of diving, and how good diving instruction minimizes them.
Does my son really need diving instruction?
Diving instruction is so important because a dive involves a person entering the water head first. Think about all the important organs in your head (like the brain). Did you know that water hit just as hard as concrete at the right speed? Yes that’s right, concrete. Can you imagine the damage that jumping head first into concrete would cause? I don’t want to think about that, and I don’t want to experience that pain. Diving instruction teaches your child how to cut through the water so it will not hurt them the way concrete does.
